My Philosophy

My yoga practice is curious, purposeful, empowering, and liberating. I come to the mat reconnect with myself and my place in all things, and then, ideally, to lose my self. I practice yoga deliberately, wholeheartedly, and authentically. Yoga is not fitness or wellness. Yoga is not visual. You can't win yoga. There is no destination; just journey.

My Philosophy

Yoga for Everyone

All asanas are possible in some capacity in all anatomies. You can do yoga. There is no hierarchy.  I believe in yoga that honors every person's unique human body, mind, and spirit.

There is no such thing as yoga clothes. There is no such thing as someone who is better at yoga than someone else. There is no mat that makes you a yogi, no clothes,  no fancy props, no body. Yoga teaches us to honor and eventually let go of this physical experience, anyway.... So come as you are. Be who you are. Let go of preconceived notions.

There is no yoga devoid of spiritual, moral, and philosophical dimension. Therefore, yoga is not apolitical and neither am I. Yoga is a deliberate practice of love- working inward to and through ourselves and outward into the world. Karma yoga is a yoga of action, asking us to live our values. Yogis show up.

Advanced yoga is a yoga that develops our compassionate witness. The muscle that it grows is our awareness.  Advanced yoga means listening to the body, honoring the body's requests. Listening to the mind and spirit, and honoring their requests as well. Practicing balance between effort and ease with the goal of harmony. This is the union of mind-body-spirit. It doesn't look like anything. It doesn't arrive the same way everyday or in every person. Advanced yoga is a practice of letting go.

Yoga as Spiritual Practice

Yoga is a technology for liberation. My practice honors all eight limbs of yoga without hierarchy: ethical practices (yama & niyama), physical postures (asana), control of the breath (pranayama), withdrawal of the senses (pratyahara), singular focus (dharana), meditation (dhayana), and liberation/reunion (samadhi).

I believe in yoga lived both on and off the mat, and that our practice on the mat is a laboratory for our lives off the mat, not a separate experience.

It's Just Yoga!

My yoga, like my life, is infused with wonder, play, and a sense of humor. If we aren't rolling around and laughing , what are we even doing?
